FAQs
· When can I drive on my new driveway or walkway?
o All new concrete takes 28 days to cure out and gain 100% of its strength. After 14 days it’ll have 80% of its strength and be strong enough to drive a car on.
· What’s it mean to cure?
o Curing is the process when concrete dries and gains its strength and durability. This is why at 716 Concrete we use a water base cure and sealer, to ensure it dries properly.
· When can I walk on my driveway or walkway?
o After 24 hours you can walk on it, keep all pets off for 72 hours (due to their nails). If your pad is colored or stamped additional time may be required.
· Do I have to seal my driveway or patio?
o At 716 Concrete we seal all of our freshly poured concrete the first time for you! But we recommend you seal it every other year. This will keep your concrete protected for years to come against our harsh winters.
· Does 716 Concrete do sealing?
o For a small fee we can come back, power wash, and seal it for you. Call us at 716-512-3464 for a free estimate.
· Why does my driveway look like a zebra (like there’s stones and spots)?
o During the curing process every driveway cures and dries different, this is normal for the first 30 days or so. It’s just the water drying from the aggregate.
· Do I have to water my new concrete?
o No, while, 3-4 hours after its poured a sprinkle will not harm any broomed finish concrete, it will not enhance it nor help it either.
· When can I put topsoil back alongside my new concrete?
o While we do our best to put the grass and soil back alongside your new concrete, yo0u may need some new topsoil. You can do this 72 hours after your concrete is poured.
· Why are there lines/joints in my new driveway?
o Those are called control joints. Controlled joints are planned cracks which allow for movements caused by drying, ground movement, and temperature change. If your concrete does crack, you want it to have an active role (controlled) in deciding where it will crack and that it’ll crack in a straight line instead of randomly.
· How do you know where or when to put controlled joints in?
o With over 15 years of experience we use our knowledge and wisdom of on the job experience to decide where and how many to put in. *Remember no two jobs are the same.
· Is there a difference between concrete and cement?
o Yes. Although the terms cement and concrete often are used interchangeably, cement is actually an ingredient of concrete. Concrete is a mixture of aggregates and paste. The aggregates are sand and gravel, or crushed stone; the paste is water and Portland cement.
· What color will my concrete dry?
o While curing/drying your concrete will take on multiple shades of white and grey. Once it’s cured it’ll be a light grey/white. *The only way to change this is to order colored concrete which is exponentially more expensive.
